I use my desktops both for work and for play, and I expect the very best from them no matter what I’m doing. In more modern times, I build all of my desktop computers myself from individual components, and I apply that same meticulous care to make sure they operate at peak performance on the software side of things as well. Admittedly, there wasn’t much you could do with Windows back then (and I was a kid), but starting that early has given me a broad perspective on what’s possible with the PC environment and how far we’ve come since the early days.
